H&S Group, a prominent logistics company specialising in the transportation of liquid foodstuffs and based in Barneveld, has placed an order for 20 new DAF XG 480 FT trucks. This order follows a thorough evaluation process and highlights H&S’s commitment to efficiency and sustainability. The trucks are set to be delivered by Bakker Bedrijfswagens in early 2025.
Recently acquired by Royal Den Hartogh Logistics, H&S selected DAF as its preferred truck supplier due to its longstanding trust in the brand and the exceptional service provided by Bakker Bedrijfswagens. The DAF XG model, known for its modern and spacious cab, offers unparalleled comfort, making it ideal for long-distance journeys. Another key factor in the decision was the truck’s low curb weight, which is particularly beneficial for H&S, given its specialisation in transporting concentrated liquid foodstuffs.
“These are concentrates of liquids with as much water removed as possible. A kilogramme of concentrate can produce ten or more kilogrammes of the finished product that ends up on the shelves. Every extra kilogramme of payload capacity is crucial for us,” explained Jos van den Hurk, fleet & equipment manager at H&S.
In a bid to minimise weight and maximise efficiency, the new DAF XG 480 FT trucks will be fitted with a 510-liter fuel tank instead of the standard 600-liter one. Additionally, the trucks will feature aluminium air tanks, lightweight Alcoa rims, and an aluminium cover plate on the platform behind the cab. This cover plate will provide a safe standing area for drivers when connecting and disconnecting cables, air hoses, and the PTO drive, an added feature on these trucks.
H&S has also opted for the DAF Digital Vision system, including the Corner Eye safety feature. These advanced safety systems improve aerodynamics and enhance direct visibility by eliminating blind spots. The trucks will also come equipped with specialised software for liquid transport and predictive cruise control, which adjusts speed based on geographical data from the navigation system, ensuring efficient driving on varying terrains.
To further enhance driver comfort, the trucks will be equipped with a luxury driver’s seat and a thicker mattress. Of the 20 new trucks, 15 will be used for shorter routes in modal and intermodal transport, while the remaining five will handle longer journeys. Maintenance for the entire fleet will be managed by Bakker Bedrijfswagens under Multi Support maintenance contracts.
This new order marks the beginning of a promising collaboration between DAF, Bakker Bedrijfswagens, and H&S Group, now a part of Royal Den Hartogh Logistics. The acquisition of H&S has significantly expanded the company’s capacity and potential for innovation.
“With our focus on sustainability and continuous improvement of our services, we aim to remain a reliable partner in the logistics sector,” added Van den Hurk. “This order is a significant step in enhancing our fleet and ensuring we continue to meet the high standards our customers expect.”
The partnership between H&S, DAF, and Bakker Bedrijfswagens underscores the shared commitment to advancing efficiency, sustainability, and safety in the logistics industry.
