On Friday, June 28th, the Erik Thun Group celebrated the launch of their new dry cargo vessel, the next-generation Lake Vanern Max, at Scheepswerf Ferus Smit BV in Westerbroek, Netherlands. The vessel, named Lidan, was christened by Godmother Benita Skisser, with representatives from the shipyard, MF Shipping Group, and Erik Thun Group in attendance. Benita Skisser is the partner of Captain Oscar Lancing, a second-generation officer from a family that has long sailed with Erik Thun Group.
Erik Thun Group, a family-owned company, values tradition, integrity, and forward-thinking. The Lake Vanern Max exemplifies this commitment by integrating advanced maritime technology. Equipped with a state-of-the-art hybrid propulsion system, Lidan uses both battery power and traditional fuel to optimise energy efficiency and reduce emissions. The vessel’s battery pack enables peak shaving and power smoothing, ensuring efficient operations and minimal environmental impact. Its shore connection capability allows for silent and emission-free operations while docked, improving air quality in ports and reducing noise pollution.
The propulsion system of the Lake Vanern Max is designed for superior performance, featuring a large diameter propeller within a nozzle that delivers increased thrust at lower speeds. This design reduces power demand during challenging seaways and icebreaking operations, allowing for an 18 percent reduction in installed main engine power without compromising performance. This leads to decreased fuel usage and carbon emissions.
Erik Thun Group remains dedicated to providing efficient, reliable, and sustainable shipping services. As a crucial player in global trade and environmental stewardship, the company continues to innovate and lead in maritime solutions, ensuring their legacy as a sustainable Swedish partner for generations to come.
