The Den Hartogh team in Duisburg has recently implemented the use of an innovative shunt truck designed to transport two empty swap containers simultaneously. This new approach not only reduces the number of trips needed, leading to significant cost savings, but also contributes to a marked decrease in CO2 emissions. The truck’s lighter design further enhances fuel efficiency, making it both an economically and environmentally sound choice.
This new shunt truck represents a key advancement towards more cost-effective and sustainable transport of empty containers. Given that the truck is exclusively used for transporting empty containers, it requires less power than traditional vehicles. While conventional trucks typically feature a 13-litre engine, this new shunt truck is equipped with a more efficient 11-litre engine, resulting in lower fuel consumption and contributing to overall cost efficiency.
The truck’s construction, along with the design of its accompanying trailer, was developed in collaboration with Van Hool. Their expertise and craftsmanship have produced a vehicle that is not only functional but also meets the rigorous demands of the modern logistics sector.
Den Hartogh’s adoption of this innovative technology underscores its commitment to sustainability and operational efficiency in the logistics industry.
