Global terminal operator takes delivery of ZPMC’s 100th straddle carrier
ZPMC has reported a milestone this week with the delivery of its 100th straddle carrier. The machine was part of an order for 14 1-over-1 hybrid straddle carriers placed by APM Terminals for its facility in Lazaro Cardenas, Mexico. ZPMC noted that the machines are the first ZPMC straddle carriers in North America.
The order is the largest APM Terminals has placed with ZPMC for straddle carriers to date. APM Terminals has three automated ZPMC machine in Aarhus as part of a pilot project, and one electric machine in Barcelona.
Other terminal operators purchasing ZPMC straddle carriers include Hutchison Ports, which has eight machines at its CTN terminal in Stockholm, Sweden and two 1-over-1 units at its BEST terminal in Barcelona, and Transnet in South Africa, which operates 22 machines in Durban.
In 2021 the Busan Port Authority in South Korea took delivery of two 1-over-1 LNG powered ZPMC straddles as part of a pilot project.
Earlier this year ZPMC straddle carriers entered Central America, with the delivery of four 1-over-2 machines to the Port of Santo Tomás de Castilla in Guatemala.
