Stolt Tank Containers has introduced a cutting-edge emissions reporting tool, enabling customers to monitor the carbon footprint of their shipments and explore more sustainable transportation options. This innovation reflects STC’s commitment to environmental responsibility and aligns with the increasing demand for transparent and actionable sustainability data in the logistics industry.

Key Features of the Emissions Reporting Tool

The new tool is accessible to customers with a MySTC account and offers a comprehensive way to track greenhouse gas emissions and air pollutant emissions. Users can generate customised reports for specific products and shipping lanes with just a few clicks, making it easier to assess the environmental impact of their logistics operations.

The emissions calculations are powered by EcoTransIt, a widely recognised software tool, in combination with STC’s extensive booking data. This collaboration ensures that customers receive the most accurate estimates possible, based on:

  • The mode of transport
  • The loaded weight of the container
  • The distance travelled

Supporting Regulatory Compliance and Sustainability Goals

The detailed insights provided by the tool are designed to assist customers in meeting regulatory requirements such as the European Union’s Non-financial Reporting Directive and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive. Additionally, the data can help optimise tank routing to minimise CO2 emissions, offering customers a practical way to reduce their environmental impact.

For instance, while inland transport often relies on trucks, in many locations, it can be more environmentally friendly to use barges or rail, which typically generate lower emissions. STC also collaborates with deep-sea carriers and trucking companies that offer transportation options powered by alternative, low-emission fuels such as biofuels or LNG.

Driving Sustainable Partnerships with Customers

Angela Anastasiou, STC’s SHEQ Coordinator, emphasised the importance of this new tool in fostering sustainable practices: “At STC, we are moving towards a more sustainable future, and we know that our customers share this same goal. We have worked closely with many of them to ensure our emissions reporting tool provides transparent and accessible insights into their transportation emissions so they can optimise their routing, which ultimately supports STC’s decarbonisation goals as well as theirs.”

This tool marks a significant step in STC’s broader strategy to enhance sustainability across its operations, helping customers achieve their environmental targets while contributing to the global effort to reduce carbon emissions in the logistics industry.
